Boruto has been shown to use the ability to absorb both chakra and other people's jutsu. The true potential of the karma has likely been untapped, but Boruto will likely be given a lot of upgrades with power.

Momoshiki makes a decree that hangs over Boruto's life. He states that Boruto's blue eyes will take everything from him. That statement likely has something to do with the jougan, but it could also have something to do with karma's power.
Given what is known about karma, the power might lead to destruction and doom in Boruto's future. This line may be a reference to Borutolosing control at some point. Momoshiki might have been warning Boruto about what would happen to him once he has both the jougan and karma.
Karma seems to operate a little like the curse mark Orochimaru gave to Sasuke. Orochimaru had planned on taking control of Sasuke, similarly to how Momoshiki plans to take control of Boruto. Experts in the village have claimed it's unlike any curse mark seen before.
Sarada has drawn a comparison between the chakra seal on her mother's forehead and karma. Both the chakra seal and karma have a similar appearance. Boruto's karma may be similar to other elements in the series, but it seems to be something new and unknown.
