Good Morning. For those who understand, mental health awareness should be a daily priority, both at work and at home. Just as a broken bone can affect your physical abilities, an impaired psychological state will hinder your capacity to perform at your best—whether professionally or personally.I’ve been open about my struggles with anxiety and self-doubt, both of which have significantly impacted my career. There were many instances when high expectations were placed on me, yet I often found myself lacking the confidence to meet them. The absence of empathy in the workplace, combined with the inability to recognize signs that someone may need support, was far too common. For many organizations, targets and deliverables always seemed to outweigh employee wellbeing.Although I’ve since archived the workplace pressures, the emotional weight of those experiences doesn’t simply vanish once deadlines are no longer looming. Like brittle bones, mental health challenges don’t disappear just because the environment changes. A ‘warmer climate’ may reduce the immediate discomfort, but the underlying vulnerability remains. For me, ongoing care and attention are essential to maintaining my mental wellbeing. Here are some strategies that help me every day:I stopped drinking and using recreational substances in 2018, realizing they were masking, not addressing, the core issues I was facing.I acknowledged that having mental health challenges is nothing to be ashamed of.I began practicing cold water therapy, immersing myself in cold water at home 3-4 times a week, or taking cold showers. This has been an effective way to reset my nervous system.I exercise daily—whether walking, swimming, or cycling—allowing those endorphins to work their magic.I take prescribed supplements and maintain a healthy diet.I make it a point to walk in nature every day.I believe in the power of kindness. Being kind to others is an underrated yet profoundly rewarding act.I regularly attend live music events, which remains a vital form of escapism for me.Areas I’m working to improve:Capturing and journaling positive experiences—keeping an optimistic outlook isn’t always at the top of my list, but it should be.Saying 'no' more often—finding the strength to decline, even when it feels hard, is sometimes the best thing for my own wellbeing.Crying more—I struggle to release those pent-up emotions, but I know it’s important for letting go of tension.#worldmentalhealthday #wellness #wellbeing #mentalhealth #mentalwellbeingHope my insights may help...

04.10.24 🎵 Support Required 🎵Promoting alternative live music feels like an uphill battle at the moment. This isn't just a Shrewsbury issue, it's part of a larger trend of people hesitating to buy tickets in advance for live events.I completely understand the financial challenges many face, which is why I've always focused SY.Gigs on a "not for profit" model to keep ticket prices as low and affordable as possible. Thanks to the wonderful benefactors, dedicated volunteers, and my personal commitment, the second season of 'Letting the Light In' has remained viable, but it's been tough. Now, I need the community's support to ease some of my pressures. Here’s how you can help me:❤️ Spread the word: Share the details of our final three events with your friends and colleagues.❤️ Bring a friend: Experience the magic of immersive live music at our next event.❤️ Buy early: Commit to a beautiful experience and grab your tickets early. Physical tickets are also an option if you'd prefer to avoid booking fees.❤️Share the love: Help amplify my efforts by promoting these events within your networks.Together, as a community, we can keep a diverse and alternative culture in Shrewsbury.#LiveMusic #ShrewsburyEvents #SupportLocalMusic #LettingTheLightIn #ltli #livemusic #shropshiremusic#shrewsburylivemusic

27.09.24 this Friday we have some Jazz and Roots business ❤️💛💚Periodically SY collaborates to bring Shrewsbury 'all genre' music opportunities outside of the 'letting the light in' seasons to historic churches. The Hempolics return to Theatre Severn tomorrow night at 8pm. The Hempolics are the best band in the UK - but nobody knows it yet..." Maxi Jazz (Faithless)Tickets will be available on the door but you'll save a few pounds and heartache by booking in advance. Tix in bio.The Hempolics deliver organic rootsy vibes with fat radio friendly hooks, bumping soundsystem bass and a wanderlusty, ineffably sound of their own. The band will be showcasing new songs from their forthcoming album KTC3 as well as playing a selection of old favourites from their fine back catalog. One of the bands few gigs this year and sure to be a bouncing set.Support for the evening comes from my good friend @goapeuk who has DJ’ed all over the country in the last twenty-five years carrying his trusty box of Reggae 45’s, Spinnin’ records at The Night Owl Birmingham, Camp Bestival, The Big Chill and various Modcast events. GET THERE EARLY to skank...#reggae#reggaemusic#dubmusic#rootsreggae#thehempolics🔥 #hempolics #livemusicinshrewsbury #whatsonshrewsbury #shrewsburylivemusic #hiphop #soul #electronica #electronicmusic

No cigarettes or alcohol here!Much that many are celebrating today's news of an 'Oasis' reunion, for many small promoters the story is a world away from the reality of the challenge of making grass root venues and events sustainable. Whilst SY.gigs has remained successful to date it is only possible with the continued support of the community, artists, sponsors and collaborators. SY.gigs are 'not for profit' and are proud of this strategy. Next Up @claricejensen+@black_brxnswickerSeptember 6thThe Unitarian ChurchShrewsburyTicket link in bio.Clarice Jensen is a composer and cellist based in New York. As a solo artist, Clarice has developed a distinctive compositional approach, improvising and layering her cello through shifting loops and a chain of electronic effects to open out and explore a series of rich, drone-based sound fields. Pulsing, visceral and full of color, her work is deeply immersive, marked by a wonderful sense of restraint and an almost hallucinatory clarity. Meditative yet with a sculptural sharpness and rigor that sets it apart from the swathe of New Age / DIY droners, she has forged a very elegant and precise vision.Clarice will be playing music from her “Esthesis' album....'lush looping synths that are layered to perfection and, for some reason, never sound or feel the same way twice… this album will impact people profoundly…” MAGNETIC MAGAZINESupport comes from@blacksbrunswickerEthan Helfrick is an ambient folk artist.
